Wigan Council have devised an innovative new scheme whereby dog owners who are spotted picking up their dog's waste are rewarded with a raffle ticket.

100 raffle tickets were handed out in December, and the first winner of the £50 prize was David Unsworth with his Wire Fox Terrier, Monty.

Monty is a familiar sight to local residents because he always carries an umbrella in his mouth on his daily walk.

David and his wife are undecided on what to spend their winnings on, but a new umbrella for Monty has not been ruled out.

What an excellent idea by Wigan Council, should go national to help prompt the 'Clean up behind your pup' campaign. Am delighted a WFT owner, no pun in tended 'scooped' the first reward :)
